New MatPlus Tutorial: Radio Antenna, Rubber and Glass Buttons

By BeFX Studios • Oct 7, 2026

We have a new MatPlus tutorial: part three of the series where we texture a radio. This time we work on the base materials for the antenna, the rubber parts and the buttons, getting everything ready for the details, decals and labels in the next video.

You'll give the antenna some subtle roughness variation and lighter edges. You'll isolate parts of a set material with groups and masks, add relief and dirt to the rubber, and turn the buttons into glass. To finish, you'll give the big button a hexagon pattern and a debossed Blender logo.

In this tutorial

  • How to break up roughness with a Fill Effect from the Roughness Imperfection category, and lighten the edges with a Curvature intelligent mask.
  • How to isolate parts of a set material using folders and Mask Mesh Island (Pick Mesh Island) and Mask UV (Pick UV Seam) masks.
  • How to create raised and recessed patterns with the Dots and Hexagons mask generators and a negative Height value.
  • How auto-cache works: you see the texture at full resolution while you adjust it, and the layer re-caches as soon as you let go.
  • How to add a Transmission channel to get glass buttons.
  • How to place a decal with Add Decal and reuse it as a height mask through a link and Add Link.

The step-by-step guide for this tutorial is now available in the Learning Hub, with a clip and an explanation for every step, in English and Spanish.
