RBDLab. Rigid Body Dynamics addon for Blender

Realistic destruction and physical effects

RBDLab is a highly advanced add-on for Blender developed by BeFX Studios, designed specifically for simulating realistic destruction and physical effects. It provides users with a comprehensive suite of tools to fracture, destroy, and add intricate details to objects within Blender, making it a go-to solution for VFX artists working on destruction scenes.

Destruction with Smoke & Debris

A sphere smashes through a brick wall. The Smoke module emits from the interior faces of the fracture, so the cloud comes out of the wall instead of off its surface, while the Debris and Dust particle modules add the small rubble and dust each chunk leaves behind.

High-Detail Fractures

The concrete column is fractured with RBDLab's Fracture module and its High Details tool, which gives every cut face real relief (noise-driven roughness and cracks) instead of leaving it flat. That's why, as it falls onto the metal tube, every block and fragment shows the inside of the concrete. The simulation runs on the light version (Low) and the render shows the detailed one (High).

Metal Deformation (MetalSoft)

Steel balls hit a metal plate and every impact leaves a dent. The MetalSoft module turns the piece into a deformable proxy, so the metal bends plastically and the marks build up instead of breaking into chunks.

Debris & Dust

A concrete slab breaks in a ring and only that area comes loose. The Debris and Dust particle modules read the speed of every chunk (Compute Velocities) and emit the small rubble and the dust cloud that hangs over the crack.

Activators & Soft Bodies

An Activator spreads out from the centre of the floor and wakes the chunks as it passes; in the viewport, sleeping pieces show in yellow and active ones in red. The fragments burst up as soft bodies, bending in mid-air, surrounded by debris particles.

Melting Glass

A fractured glass cup is set up with Prepare Softbodies and its pieces behave as soft bodies: they soften and sink from the top down until the cup melts onto its base. Viewport on top, final render below.
